A proven way to be successful in life is to set meaningful goals and work on them every day. Goals provide focus, direction and control. Setting goals is a process that starts with careful consideration of what you want to achieve and making a commitment to see it through. Goals are:

  • Meaningful
  • Motivating
  • Broad
  • Realistic
  • Achievable

Objectives describe the specific steps needed to reach the desired goal. They are precise actions or measurable steps leading closer to the goal. Objectives are specific and typically tied to a time-bound schedule for completion. Objectives are:

  • Specific
  • Sequenced
  • Descriptive
  • Measurable
  • Time-bound

Obstacles are the things that hinder progress. Traditionally, obstacles are addressed in the objectives section of Task Analysis but we treat them in a slightly different way. Obstacles can be worked with, worked around, eliminated or just ignored in some cases. Categories of obstacles are

  • Situational
  • Environmental
  • Social
  • Personal
  • Economic
